Museums

The Eurometropolis has a large museum offering, testifying its rich past and at the same time its actual role as a cultural crossroads.

In Lille, the Fine Arts Center ("Palais des Beaux Arts") presents the second best arts collection, after the Louvre. In Villeneuve d’Ascq, the LaM presents two very rich modern and contemporary art areas as well as the first collection of outsider art (called "art brut" in French) in Europe. In Roubaix, the "Piscine", museum of art and industry of André Diligent, is located in the magnificent swimming pool in art déco style by the Lille architect Albert Baert.

The Tournai Museum of Fine Arts — product of the genius mind of the architect Victor Horta — displays a very interesting collection of impressionists (Manet, Monet, Seurat, Van Gogh) and numerous painting jewels from the XVth century on.

The Eurometropolis also counts remarkable commemorating places, such as the In Flanders Fields museum in Ypres, in remembrance of the trench warfare of the First World War.

Numerous museums of the Eurometropolis valorize the popular culture: around textile (lace, linen) or the famous Giants. Within this context, the Cycling Museum of Roeselare is a true must see.
