Parks and gardens

The French landscape architect Gilles Clément said: "to make a garden, one needs a piece of land and eternity". On this piece of land, the Eurometropolis cultivated art to transform nature and to embellish it according to the tastes of that.

The Enghien park is classified today amongst the exceptional gardens of Wallonia. The French gardens of the Castle of Beloeil, the forest park and the English garden of the castle of Attre are both other exceptional testimonies of garden art. This art, however, is also present nowadays in the Eurometropolis area. Mosaïc, the garden of cultures situated in the Deûle Park in Houplin Ancoisne (about fifteen kilometers from Lille), houses a setting of contemporary gardens designed by some thirty European landscape architects honoring the diversity of populations who made this region a welcoming area, and who undoubtedly shaped its natural sense and spontaneous welcome. A garden, representing a motionless journey through the botanic zones, the art and the living species of seven regions of the world.

In Kortrijk, the international Rose Garden presents and commercializes two hundred rose varieties, as well as a collection of ancient roses.

Ooidonk Castle is well known, but the beautiful gardens situated around it are also worth a visit. They can be visited separately from the castle.
